The other day, during our stop-over in Timor, the homestay owner took us to a secret place called Crystal Cove. After a 30-minute drive, we ended up in the middle of a field where, after a 15-minute walk, this secret hidden cove appeared. You walk down and all of a sudden you see the most amazing blue water. Little did we know that our presence had attracted the curiosity of the local boys and girls.
After a nice dip in the most refreshing water, we gave our phone to 2 local girls and showed them how to make pictures of themselves. They were shy and started giggling as if they had never seen this before. As if they had never seen a picture of themselves before.
We realized how accustomed we are to electronics. How computers, phones, tablets, music is just there. Life without it is, for us, almost impossible anymore. It feels empty. Where these 2 small girls were completely un-wired. No phone just playing together in the fields or doing homework, no distractions. The simple life. How nice would it actually be if you would be introduced to an iPhone just today? How pure would that experience be? On the other hand it also made us realize that our world is just a different world. As long as you are not consumed by the “electronic-store” in your bag, it is in our world and we love it.
